Five Things to Know About the Biden’s Administration’s historic investment in high-speed Internet:


  1. President Biden’s “Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” included the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program that’s designed to connect everyone in America to affordable, reliable high-speed Internet service, as part of the Administration’s “Internet for All” initiative.
  2. There are opportunities for the Black business community to help build our nation’s high-speed Internet infrastructure. Each State and US Territory will receive between $150MM and $3.1B to administer the BEAD program within its respective borders Biden-Harris Administration Announces State Allocations for $42.45 Billion BEAD Grant Program | Internet for All and will issue BEAD grants to Internet service providers, municipalities, and other entities to deploy Internet connections to unserved and underserved homes and businesses.
  3. Ensure your voice is heard. In creating their BEAD plans, each State/Territory is REQUIRED to consult and coordinate with local stakeholders, including businesses, trade associations and underserved groups. Once it’s posted for public comment, you can find your State’s Draft BEAD Initial Proposal here.
  4. BEAD projects will create business opportunities for contractors, suppliers, and other businesses. As a condition of funding, states and territories must develop a plan that includes equitable contracting and hiring practices. It is anticipated that 150,000 jobs will be created due to the BEAD program.
